The MARCS Institute has a large concentration of researchers, including early and mid-career researchers, professors, post-doctoral fellows, adjunct appointments and higher degree research students.

Research within the Institute focuses on the explanation and enhancement of human-human and human-machine communication. Behavioural, neuroscience and computational approaches are used in pure and applied research on perceptual, cognitive, creative and social skills from infancy to adulthood, in real and virtual worlds, in normal, heightened (e.g., performing arts) and impaired (e.g., developmental delay, sensory loss) contexts.
