Congratulations Iris-Corinna Schwarz

Congratulations to Iris-Corinna Schwarz on her recent success in gaining a Junior Research Position grant (similar to a Postdoctoral Fellowship) from the Swedish Research Council. The funds awarded secure Iris a position at Stockholm University (with Professor Francisco Lacerda) for the next 4 years, and help to fund the project. This project will build on the work Iris completed as part of her recently-awarded PhD.

Iris-Corinna Schwarz The influence of attention to phonetic detail in speech perception on vocabulary development: Early prevention of developmental language delay, Swedish Research Council Junior Research Position grant, Administering Organisation: Stockholm University; 2007- 2011, 828,000 SEK (AUD 144,000) per annum.

Project Summary
This project is a collaboration with Professor Francisco Lacerda, and investigates the vocabulary size of 16- to 20-month-old children from a Swedish language environment. As part of the project a training program for phonological sensitivity and speech perception will be devised and tested for its effect on vocabulary size. This program will be directed at being used in early in language development and has the possibility of taking the form of a home-based intervention option for children who show delay in their vocabulary at 18 months of age.
