July 27, 2007

Welcome to Dr Freya Bailes, new Postdoctoral Research Fellow at MARCS. Following graduation with her PhD from University of Sheffield in the UK (Titled: Musical Imagery: Hearing and Imagining Music), Freya worked at the University in various teaching positions and held postdoctoral positions at the University of Ohio and University of Burgundy. In 2004 she took up a position working with Professor Roger Dean as a Postdoctoral fellow in the Sonic Communications Research Group, at the University of Canberra. During this time Freya worked on an ARC discovery grant investigating the cognitive accessibility of macrostructure in real-time digitally-generated music.

Freya not only has excellent academic qualifications but can also be added to the list of professional musicians affiliated with MARCS. During her time at the University of Canberra, Freya founded and conducted the University of Canberra Student Singers, the University of Canberra Really Dreadful Orchestra, and the 'scratch day' series. Most recently Freya has been playing oboe with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.

Welcome Freya we hope you enjoy your time here at MARCS.
