Welcome to ICoMCS2
Welcome to the website and Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Music Communication Science – ICoMCS2 – held during HCSNet SummerFest at the University of New South Wales, 3-4 December, 2009. ICoMCS2 follows the inaugural conference held in Sydney in 2007 and chaired by Emery Schubert.
The goal of ICoMCS2 is to bring together new and established researchers from around Australia and beyond who have interests in music communication in its many forms including performance, therapy, education, composition, modeling, information retrieval, perception, and psychophysics. At a national level, ICoMCS2 provides an opportunity for members of music research groups and labs to meet one another and to connect with members of HCSNet who have interests in sonics and the priority areas Perception and Action or Human Communication Disorders. We’re thrilled to welcome researchers who have traveled from Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States to take part in ICoMCS2.
Close to 80 submissions to ICoMCS2 were received in July 2009 with authors subsequently receiving two written reviews. The final program consists of 61 presentations and two keynote addresses (acceptance rate=76%). Thirty-two full papers were peer reviewed by the ICoMCS2 Scientific Committee with twenty-five of the fully reviewed papers appearing in the final program. The 25 fully reviewed papers are listed on p. 2 and, together with eight full papers received post review, are available from this web-based Proceedings (ISBN 978-1-74108-203-6). In an effort to include a wide range of topics and presenters in the two-day ICoMCS2 meeting, we have programmed 37 speed papers that, while fast paced, are plenary and will provide presenters with written as well as oral feedback.
ICoMCS2 has been made possible through the support of the ARC Research Network in Human Communication Science (HCSNet), the Australian Music and Psychology Society (AMPS) Inc., The School of English, Media and Performing Arts at the University of New South Wales, and MARCS Auditory Laboratories at the University of Western Sydney. We hope ICoMCS2 is suitably sonic, social and stimulating.
