Information for Presenters

People who have submitted a paper for ICOMCS will have received an email about whether or not their paper has been accepted for the conference.

If your paper has been accepted, you can and should make changes to your full- paper (or abstract if you did not submit a full-paper) and return it to the assistant conference secretariat from September 17, 2007. At least one of the presenters must register as well.

If registration is not received by October 1 (at the latest) your paper will be removed from the conference and conference program (we would prefer to receive all information on September 17, but October 1 is an absolute deadline).

If you have registered but not submitted a revised version of your paper, we will assume that you do not wish to make any changes, and we may apply editorial discretion.

If you wish to withdraw your paper from the conference, could you kindly email the Conference Sectretariat Kym Buckley, ky.buckley@uws.edu.au

Format of Presentation

Regular and Performance Paper

These papers are to be presented in 15 minutes, with 3 minutes for questions. This is a more traditional mode of conference presentation than Speed Papers. If performance or installation, no more than 10 minutes of the work is to be performed. The rest of the time is to be used for discussion and description of the performance or installation.

Speed Paper

These papers are presented in 4 minutes blocks with groups of 3 to 7 speakers in each session. These presentations are followed by a question period of 10 to 15 minutes. Speed papers must be presented on a Powerpoint template consisting of four slides (Template is available here) and be submitted by Monday, November 12, 2007. The audience will be given a copy of your slides and will be invited to provide feedback. At the end of your session the feedback forms will be collected, collated and available for you to pick up. Many presenters find catching up with some of the people who made comments about their speed paper a most exciting part of the conference.

Tips: Practice your speed paper before you submit the completed Speed Paper Template. You will need to be very focused and concise. Practice you speed paper several times (it is only four minutes!) to ensure that you do not waste time and do not lose focus on the day. Try to address each heading provided in the template briefly and concisely. The audience will understand that you may not be able to provide in-depth details.

Instructions and further tips on presenting Speed Papers are included in the Speed Paper template.

Submission

(Submissions closed July 2, 2007. The following information is for reference only)

To apply to present at the conference (regardless of presentation format), please submit a 150 to 300 word abstract (ICoMCS submission form) and (if you want to submit a full paper) a 4 page full paper (full paper template). Please include three keywords categorizing your paper, starting with the most relevant one, as indicated in the submission form. Please indicate which, if any, of the priority areas fits your paper as well as a list of technical requirements needed for your presentation. Please note that we cannot guarantee the supply of all technical resources, but will notify you in advance of any problems.  Performance item submissions need to be particularly aware of technical and space constraints that may be imposed beyond our control.

Abstracts/full-papers must be received by July 2 in order to be considered.  Submissions will then be assessed and if accepted, placed into either a Regular or Speed Paper slot. Symposia abstracts will be processed similarly.

Review Process

Your paper will be assessed by two peer reviewers. Papers which are accepted and for which at least one author has registered by the registration deadline will be published in a proceedings of the conference. After the conference, authors of papers selected by members of the Scientific Committee, will be invited to submit a full version of their work (3,000 to 7,000 words) for possible publication in a special edition journal or e-book.
