The Asia-Pacific Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (APSCOM) consists of:


Japanese Society for Music Perception & Cognition


Korean Society for Music Perception & Cognition

Australian Music & Psychology Society

WHEN WAS APSCOM FORMED?

Formed in January 1 2001, the first official meeting of APSCOM was held during the Spring Meeting of the Japanese Society for Music Perception & Cognition, May 2001 at Kyushu Institute of Design, Fukuoka, Japan.

WHY DOES APSCOM EXIST?

The three societies in Japan, Korea and Australia are managed independently.

Under APSCOM the three societies cooperate to:

  • foster research and collaboration in the cognitive science of music; and
  • promote communication and friendship among researchers in the Asia-Pacific region.

APSCOM also represents the Asia-Pacific area for the biennial International Conference on Music Perception & Cognition (ICMPC7). Organisation of ICMPC is currently overseen by the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (ESCOM) and the Society for Music Perception & Cognition (SMPC).

WHEN IS THE NEXT APSCOM MEETING?

APSCOM, with AMPS, is co-sponsor of the 7th International Conference on Music Perception & Cognition (ICMPC7) to held at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, July 17-21, 2002. For information about ICMPC7 go to: http://www.uws.edu.au/marcs/icmpc7/
