Congratulations Tim Paris: Winner of the Trans-Tasman 3 Minute Thesis Contest


Tim Paris from the MARCS Institute won the Trans-Tasman 3 Minute Thesis contest late yesterday at the University of Queensland.

Representatives from more than 30 universities across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the South Pacific competed for a place in the Trans-Tasman 3MT Final.
Robyn Williams from the Science Show ABC was one of the judges. It was hosted by the Professor Zlatko Skrbis Dean, UQ Graduate School.
Tim’s presentation was titled: "Brain waves that Predict the Future" and focussed on his PhD research on the differences in the way the brain processes expected and unexpected events.
He has won a $5000 research travel grant.
His supervisors are A/Prof Kim Jeesun, Prof Chris Davis, Dr John Cass (School of Social Sciences and Psychology).
As a result of Tim’s win UWS will host the Trans-Tasman event in 2013- a huge opportunity and a large scale, high profile event for the university.
